CommonHealth contains an Chinese herb pharmacy but it is not a pharmacy in the sense that you can call in and purchase Chinese herbs directly. There are other places on the internet if you want to prescribe for yourself and purchase Chinese herbs. Unless you know what you are doing, really know what you are doing, I would not recommend you do this. Herbs are generally not as strong or as toxic as some pharmaceuticals, but they are not entirely without risk. And, just because you read somewhere that such and such an herb is good for such and such an illness or condition, does not mean it is right to take for your particular such and such.
I have been prescribing Chinese herbs for over 20 years and I can tell you by experience that picking the correct herbs for anyone is a difficult and tricky proposition. Make no mistake about it, this is serious business and a form of medicine even if it is not conventional Western medicine — which has its own difficulties. If you need prescription pharmaceuticals, you need a physician. If you want a prescription for herbs, you need a qualified and competent herbalist. This is where our service comes in.
Finding an herbalist is also not easy. There simply are not many around the country; and, qualifications and competency vary greatly.
I am a licensed acupuncturist — L.Ac. — a Chinese medical practitioner in North Carolina with over 30 years experience in acupuncture and over 20 years of experience in Chinese herbalism. I believe Chinese herbs are especially useful in some types of conditions and not useful in other illnesses or distresses. There are problems for which Western pharmaceuticals are superior; some problems for which Chinese herbs might be preferable; and, many times, problems for which a combination is the best thing for you. You can make a phone appointment to discuss whether I believe I can help or not. There is no charge for exploring the possibilities.
If you would like to avail yourself of my services, we then put aside a time for an appointment. Most herb appointments are about one hour in length. I need to take a thorough medical history and I ask about all the systems of you body, mind and spirit and then decide what would be most appropriate for you. You need not live in central North Carolina to access our Chinese herb prescription service. We can do our appointment over the phone; and, if you have access to Skype we can see each other as well as talk.
I will then send you Chinese herbs. Most likely you will receive raw herbs and you will need to transform them into a tea — more formally known as a “water extract.”
This gives everyone access wherever internet is available to the benefits of Chinese herbs. I am proud to offer you these services. The price for these services are no different than if you came to my office. The only additional charge is postage.
Please use the contact information on this website to set up a consultation to see if herbs are right for you or set up an appointment to begin the process of using Chinese herbs. You can send an e-mail or phone CommonHealth.
